CONTRA-TIEMPO

CONTRA-TIEMPO will be sharing works in progress of  ¡Azúcar! and Togetherverse, (A duet between CONTRA-TIEMPO’s Artistic Director, Ana Maria Alvarez, & jazz musician and composer Arturo O’Farrill). As well as an excerpt of the company's acclaimed work, joyUS justUS. 

The ¡Azúcar! framework is a courageous naming/confrontation of and intentional obliteration of the undercurrent and often unspoken anti-blackness in latinidad. This framework is embodied through the practice and sharing of our Afro-Latinx ancestral movement and vibrational technologies. 

In their first-ever collaboration, pianist/composer Arturo O’Farrill and dancer/choreographer Ana Maria Alvarez, both award-winning and prolific artists in their own right, invite the audience into their inner world. Together this artist duo will play, talk, improvise, move and bring it:  weaving a fabric of stories and questions, imagining through their distinct but cogenerative mediums, embracing and embodying their fears out loud, taking the audience on a wild ride rooted in their personal journeys and the futures they are imagining and conjuring.
