joyUS justUS continues to speak to the masses, and spread it’s ripples far and wide. Maria Garcia and Jasmine Stanley are looking forward to a 7-day teaching residency with the Wayne State Dance Program where they will be exploring our ancestral technologies of salsa, Afro-cuban dance, hip-hop, and other forms of the Afro-Latine diaspora. They will also be rehearsing intensely with a group of students to present an excerpt of joyUS justUS.
This week-long residency will provide a unique opportunity for Wayne State University dancers to engage with the company's innovative and thought-provoking approach to dance. Through a combination of masterclasses, community engagement, and involvement in our creative process, CONTRA-TIEMPO artists, Stanley and Mari, will share their expertise in Afro-Latine dance techniques, improvisation, and choreography. Students will gain insights into CONTRA-TIEMPO's commitment to social justice and using dance as a tool for activism.
This residency is a valuable opportunity for students to develop their artistic skills, gain a deeper understanding of contemporary dance, and explore the power of dance to create social change.
