CONTRA-TIEMPO has led scores of professional development workshops for educators across the country.
Founding Artisitic Director, Ana Maria Alvarez, has significant classroom teaching experience, from elementary through graduate school levels, including having devised the UCLA Lab School's dance curriculum. All company dancers also receive formal training in effective teaching strategies and are seasoned teaching artists. Each workshop that we offer is tailored to the needs of the audience. Some of the sessions that we have led include:
The pedagogy and practice of socially-transformative dance for democracy
Social dance as a tool for building literacy in English language learners
Movement and literacy across the disciplines
Art as social action
